Book Editing

  • I will not work with any manuscript in which AI has been used to create, generate, draft, inspire, suggest, edit, proofread, coordinate, and/or write/produce content.

Cyrus Literary Productions condemns the use of Artificial Intelligence in creative and artistic spaces, and refuses to take part in its eradiation of critical thinking, intellectual property, and the connection of humanity.

  • The purpose of the sample edit is for you to get a feel of my editing style and whether I am the right editor for you and your story.

Not finished your manuscript but want to determine who your editor could be when it is? Or are you looking for a general checkpoint in your writing on where you can improve? Intention for immediate service is not necessary, though please state so in your query. I’m happy to help all indie authors, regardless of their intentions to use my services later on.

    Non-Disclosure Agreement

Before we begin a sample edit, an NDA will be drafted and signed by both Editor and Author. This is to protect any and all work you share with me to remain yours intellectually, during and after any edits have been made.

    Format Requirements

Please conduct a proofread and copy edit of your own before submitting to me.

Ten pages are asked for fiction, and five for poetry.

For prospective clients, I ask for pages within the middle of your manuscript, though the selection for the sample edit is ultimately your choice.

    Include in your sample:

    • A title page, consisting of a title and the date upon sending.

    • Your name, word count, and contact information (email) in the first page header.

    • Page numbers (placed in the top right header).

    • Be size 12, double spaced, in Times New Roman fon, and have first-line indents

    • Saved as a PDF.

My standard for a returned sample is between four to six business days after date of digital delivery.

  • My services include a heavy developmental and stylistic focus with basic copy and line editing.

With each manuscript, authors receive a free post-contract video consultation to communicate your story non-negotiables, a raw copy of edits and a 5-20 page (depending on length of manuscript) feedback letter at the end of contract, and a following post-editorial video consultation to clarify any queries and/or clarification for the critiques.

  • Only accepting fiction and poetry manuscripts of fantasy, horror, romance, sci-fi and their respected subgenres.

If interested in full services, please email a query to cyrusliteraryproductions@gmail.com during office hours, and share the following information:

    • What is your expected timeline for the service? Make sure to check my availability in the FAQ.

    • What is your name and/or penname?

    • What is the word count, genre, and intended audience/age rating for your manuscript?

    • What kind of editing you are looking for? I specialize with developmental and stylistic editing. While copy and line edits are included in the Editorial Service, mastery is not guaranteed as it is not my primary experience.

    • What are your desired areas of focus?

    • Are there any trigger warnings I should be aware of?

    • How did you find me/my services?

  • If you've decided I'm the fit for you, I'll prepare an contract that entails my duties, responsibilities, deadlines, and payment agreements. For your reference, I use a similar template recommended by  Editors Association of Canada.

The preparation of this contract will take a few days for me to draft, as its purpose is to ensure clear and detailed communication, the intellectual protection of your work, and to hold us both accountable legally.

Once signed by both Editor and Author, an invoice will be sent for a deposit payment. As soon as it is processed, manuscripts are asked to be sent in the same format as their sample edit, and our work begins.

  • The industry standard for developmental editing is $0.02 USD to $0.08 USD per word.

My services charge $0.012 USD per word. I work for and with indie authors, my prices reflect that.

Contracts require a 50% non-refundable deposit before work begins, and the remaining 50% following the return of edits. Payments are processed through PayPal.

A 4% Transfer Fee is required by the client on top of the service fee.
